  • Dance Champions

    Thu 24 Apr 2025

South Cambs School Sports Partnership Annual Dance Competition

We are thrilled to announce that our school has won this year’s School Games Annual Dance Competition!

Eighteen children from Years 3 to 6 proudly represented our school in this exciting event.

    Competition Format & Judging Criteria:

    • Group Performance: Groups could range in size from 3 to 30 participants, including small groups, large ensembles, or even entire classes. Groups could be made up of boys, girls, or be mixed gender.
    • Performance Requirements: Submissions were required to be between 1–3 minutes long and could feature any dance style or music, as long as they linked to this year’s theme, Dancing Through the Ages.
    • Judging Criteria (out of 40 marks):
      1. Link to the Theme (10 marks)
      2. Performance of Skills (10 marks)
      3. Creativity and Originality (10 marks)
      4. Staging, Formations, and Use of Floor Space (10 marks)

This Year’s Theme: "Dancing Through the Ages"
The theme was designed to appeal to all age groups and connect with either the dance curriculum or other topics studied in school. Participants could explore historical eras such as the Egyptians, Greeks, Victorians, or World Wars; significant people or events like the moon landing; or musical styles across decades, including the Charleston, lindy hop, jive, hip hop, disco, and folk dance.

Our group chose to focus on dancing through the decades, which was a fun but demanding challenge. We had around 45 minutes of choreography to condense into just three minutes for our final performance!

The dedication shown by all the children was outstanding. They gave up many of their playtimes to rehearse, determined to perfect their routine and score as highly as possible.

A huge well done to our incredible dancers—we couldn’t be prouder of you! Thank you also to all the parents for your continued support throughout this event.

  • Young Voices Trip

    Thu 13 Feb 2025

On Wednesday, 75 children from the Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 choir visited the 02 for the Young Voices concert.  They joined with 8000 other children to perform songs that they have been rehearsing since September.  Family members joined for a 95 minute performance in the evening.  The children got to accompany Tommy Blaize, Strictly singer, and sing with Souparnika Nair, who performed on Britain’s Got Talent when she was 10 years old!  The Urban Strides group led the whole arena in dance and it was great to see family members joining in too!

It was a long day with us not getting back to school until 11.30pm!  The children were amazing, showing enthusiasm and pride throughout the day.  Staff from the 02 commented that our children were the most polite and respectful that they had met all week! Mrs Jackson and Miss Moule were very proud.  It really was the most wonderful day.  More photos and videos can be found on the school Facebook page.

  • 3rd Place at the Panathlon

    Tue 12 Nov 2024

Today, Miss Moule took a group of eight children to take part in the Panathlon at IVC. In this competition, the children took part in a carousel of eight activities including New Age Kurling, Bowling and Target Throw. In each activity, the children worked hard to earn points to contribute to our team total. It was amazing to see the children supporting and encouraging each other. They showed determination even when they found activities challenging. We achieved our best ever position coming 3rd out of 8 teams-we are so proud! We were only two points behind the winner. Well done all!

  • Author Visit

    Fri 18 Oct 2024

On Wednesday, Rhian Tracey, author of 'I, Spy: A Bletchley Park Mystery,' came to visit us at HIPPS. She led an assembly for Years 2-6 where she talked about her new book which is being released in February. Rhian led writing workshops for our children in Year 5 and 6 who are studying the novel in class. She definitely felt that we had some budding authors! While she was here, she signed copies of the book that the children had bought in and signed our school copies too!

  • Year 6 Netball

    Fri 18 Oct 2024

Today, some of our Year 6 children went to our first ever netball competition which took place at Cottenham Village College. We played a total of five games with all the children having the opportunity to play in every position during those games. The children performed brilliantly and improved with every game. The teamwork displayed was brilliant and we definitely had the best support with Miss Williams, Miss Anelay and Mrs Jackson all cheering on the children. Miss Williams even ended up umpiring some matches! The team demonstrated amazing skill, determination and teamwork to win four out of their five games and drawing the other. So proud!

  • Year 5/6 Trip To Bletchely Park

    Fri 04 Oct 2024

On Thursday, Year 5 and 6 embarked on an exciting school trip to Bletchley Park as part of their History and Mathematical enrichment. During the visit, we learned about Operation Overlord and the D-Day landings, and explored the historic site where approximately 9,000 workers, many of whom were women, contributed to the war effort during World War II.

The highlight of our visit was becoming code breakers! We signed secrecy documents, pledging that “no word of mine shall betray, however slightly, the great trust placed in me.” If asked about our activities, we had to say we were doing “boring office work.” In our codes and ciphers session, we cracked codes and took on the roles of key historical figures from Bletchley Park's past. We also enjoyed a guided tour, which deepened our understanding of this iconic centre of Allied code-breaking.

The day was a fantastic experience, and we are excited to continue our learning through our text ‘I, Spy: A Bletchley Park Mystery’ by Rhian Tracey.

A huge thank you to the staff and parents and carers who volunteered to help make this incredible learning opportunity possible.

  • Wimbledon Trip

    Thu 11 Jul 2024

On Wednesday, Miss Moule and Mrs Munnelly took a group of 8 Year 5 children to Wimbledon.  We were lucky enough to receive tickets in the schools ballot so held our own schools ballot to select our lucky 8! They headed off bright and early, travelling through London seeing sights such as The Gherkin, The Shard and The Tower of London.  Arriving at 11, they headed to Number 2 Court where they saw the ladies doubles quarter final with Coco Gauff.  They then saw Brits Willis and Barnett in the mixed doubles who beat Ram and Volynets.  One of Miss Moule’s oldest friends works at Wimbledon so linked the children up with the Education department who shared some interesting facts about the championships.  Did you know each day 45,000 people visit Wimbledon? Also, over the course of the Championships, 2.5 million strawberries are consumed. The grass is cut every morning to 8mm high and the lines are repainted each morning! If you win Wimbledon, you won £2.35 million and if you are knocked out in round 1 you still receive £55,000!  After this, they visited the museum to learn about the history of the tournament.  After a quick sit on Murray Mound, they headed to the café to try some of the famous strawberries and cream.  Whilst in the café, they met Judy Murray who posed for a photo with them! The children were very excited to meet the mum of the Wimbledon champ Andy Murray!  To end the day, the revisited Number 2 court for the Ladies Doubles Quarter Finals! It really was a fabulous day and it was great to see the children applying their tennis knowledge from Mr Fallon’s P.E. lessons!  To see more pictures from the day visit our school Facebook page! • Kings and Queens Day

    Fri 07 Jun 2024

On Tuesday, Key Stage One children took part in a day where they discovered all there is to know about monarchs of the UK, including those past and present.  They took part in a coronation in order to find about what happens during this royal event.  In the afternoon, there was a royal banquet where children enjoyed some tasty foods!  We also had a guest appearance from King Charles III who happened to be in Histon for the day!!  Our court jesters kept the royal guests entertained during the banquet.  The day was enjoyed by all (especially the staff!).
