  • Democracy in Action!

    Thu 12 Dec 2019

Children in Year 1  learnt a little bit more about the process of 'democracy' on the day of our general election. We found out about what a prime minister does, who votes for them, what an M.P is and where the Prime Minister lives.

We learnt the following words and phrases and their meanings:

candidate - a person who hopes to be elected

manifesto – the plan and promises of a political party, that is shared with everyone

polling card – a card that shows you are allowed to vote

polling station – the place where you can vote

postal vote – if you register for a postal vote, you don’t have to go to the polling station

ballot paper – the paper you use to cast your vote

We also got to use a Polling Station to vote for which film we would like to watch at the end of term as a treat. Real democracy in action!

Lots of us wanted to know what our friends had voted for but we talked about why the ballot is secret. Some of us found it hard not to try and persuade our friends to choose the same film as us but we talked about why that wasn't fair!!

  • First photos of our new school!

    Wed 11 Dec 2019
On Friday 6th December Mr Newman and Mrs Birch went to their first meeting at the Buxhall Farm site where our new school is going to be. It is amazing to see just how much has already been done. The perimeter fence has gone all the way around the edge of the school grounds, lots of the field have been flattened and some of the work needed to make lay the foundations has already take place.
  • EYFS visit Tesco!

    Tue 10 Dec 2019

Last week, the Foundation Stage classes went to Tesco on a shopping trip to buy some picnic food for Baby Bear from the story  'Whatever Next'.

On Monday, they found a bear in the outdoor area. He had crash landed a rocket! There was a letter in his rocket.  The children read it and discovered a story about Baby Bear and his magical adventure on the moon. On Tuesday, they decided to have a picnic too so they wrote shopping lists for items they wanted. On Wednesday, they had great fun buying the items they needed.  They bought jam, bread, juice, biscuits and apples. On Friday, they ate their picnics!

  • Class 9 Aurora Australis Inspired Art

    Fri 06 Dec 2019

This half term, Year Two have been learning about colour mixing using powder paint. They recapped on what they learnt in Year One about primary and secondary colours.  They then investigated what happens when you add black and white to a colour.

Class 9 have then used what they have learnt to create Aurora Australis (Southern Lights) inspired paintings.  They painted their sky background using shades and tints of different colours then they thought about what is found in Antarctica.  From here, they used black paper to cut out silhouettes of things like research stations, penguins and Mount Erebus.
