Physical Education
Physical Education (PE) is at the heart of our school and at HIPPS we are passionate about promoting active, healthy lifestyles, encouraging children to challenge themselves in sport and physical activity. We want all our children to enjoy being active and feel confident in tackling a variety of movements and skills. We believe that children should understand the importance of a healthy lifestyle from the beginning of their school journey and build on this throughout their school life.
The enthusiasm and love for PE and sport is evident in our school. The impact of this commitment means that our children are focused learners who benefit from regular activity throughout the day and week. The children report that they feel encouraged, supported and feel more focused and ready to learn when back in class. The use of Pupil Voice is strong and is used to constantly review and improve our provision.
Our PE curriculum includes- Games, Dance, Gym, Athletics, Health and Fitness, Fundamentals, Swimming and Outdoor Adventurous Activities. Children at our school receive high-quality lessons from specialist games, dance and gymnastic teachers (and class teachers) from Reception to the end of Primary. On a daily basis, children engage in active playtime breaks supported by our Year 5 Play Leaders, and regular dynamic breaks both indoors and outdoors, which all add to the daily total of exercise and link to national initiatives to increase sport and exercise.
All children also have the opportunity to represent the school in competitions hosted by the South Cambridgeshire School Partnership, focused on providing all children with the opportunity to compete at different levels.
