Geography
At Histon and Impington Park Primary School we recognise the importance of teaching both substantive and disciplinary knowledge in order to develop each child’s geographical understanding. Our well-structured curriculum ensures coverage of all the key areas of Geography: locational knowledge, place knowledge, environmental, physical and human geography processes and geographical skills and field work. Within our taught themes, we explore local, regional, national and global geographical knowledge.
As the children progress through KS1 and KS2, our units are structured to enable them to build on previous learning and continue to improve both knowledge and understanding over time. This enables them to reflect, revisit and embed their learning as they draw comparisons between units. As they progress through their primary education, the children are increasingly encouraged to make comparisons and draw conclusions which are grounded in a growing awareness of our world and their impact on it.
The structure and progression of our Geography Curriculum is designed to promote excitement and a love of the discipline and also enables teachers to identify and address any misconceptions effectively. From Reception through to Year 6, we aim to prepare our children for their future learning in Geography but also their future experiences in the world they live in.
