  • Visitors from Chivers!

    Tue 26 Nov 2019

Although it is no longer called 'Chivers' the children in Year 1 were very lucky to have visitors this week from the Jam Factory in Histon. We learnt about the History of the factory and what they now made. The staff that joined us all worked for the 'New Product development team' which meant they invented new products, flavours and packaging!!!

All the children were given the opportunity to interact whilst being shown a PPT about the making of jam including equipment and machinery and how it has changed over the years. Children noticed the differences in the sizes of the pans and other machinery.

All the children were then divided into three groups and each had an assigned adult visitor. The adult talked about each product asking questions about the taste, texture, colour and smell. The children talked about the differences between types of jam, jelly and marmalade and encouraged to ask questions. The children had the opportunity to show some of their fantastic expressive language to describe the products e.g slimy, wobbly, sweet, bitter  and asked excellent questions e.g ‘ What’s your favourite ingredient?’ ‘What makes the jelly wobble?’ ‘ What happens to the fruit when you make jelly?’

All the children loved having the visitors in and especially enjoyed the tasting!!

Thank you to Timothy's Mum for organising the visit.

See below for photographs of Class 8 engaged in trying out the different products.

The children will be making their own jam later this year as part of a cross-curricular activity with DT.

  • Antarctic Visitor to Year Two

    Fri 22 Nov 2019
On Thursday 21st November 2019, James Miller from the British Antarctic Survey came to visit Year Two as part of their Ice topic! He shared lots of information about what it was like in Antarctica and what it was like to be on one of the research stations.  We found out all about the different types of jobs that there are in Antarctica.  He shared information about the wildlife that you can find there.  There was also a chance to see some of the clothing that scientists wear and some of the food that they eat.  The most exciting moment came when he gave each class some Antarctic ice that scientists had moved from deep in the ice sheet.  It was 800 years old! What an experience it was!
  • Odd sock Day

    Sun 17 Nov 2019

As part of our Anti-bullying week we all wore odd socks to help us to think about the differences and similarities between us all. We talked about how it was OK to be different and how, being different to everyone else was what made all of us special and unique. We thought we all wore some very cool socks (even the teachers!)  and Miss Jessop led an assembly so that we had the opportunity to celebrate our differences!

See below for some of our cool socks. It's lucky you can't smell through your computer/phone/tablet!!

  • Foundation Stage bonfires

    Thu 07 Nov 2019

All of the Foundation Stage classes went out onto the field this week and watched their teachers, and Mr Foster the caretaker, make bonfires in a firepit. They talked about what they could see, hear and smell and came up with some great describing words.

They then went back into class to write some warning signs and sentences including; 'it is hot' and ' do not touch'.
